Practical, tailored advice
About us
“They say you learn by doing”—and at Agridek, that couldn’t be more true. With over twenty years of experience, Hotze and Jan Bosch have built up a wealth of knowledge about creating lasagna pits and everything that comes with it. What started as a solution for their own livestock farm has grown into an independent company that’s now a frontrunner in forage storage and covering systems.
Agridek in brief
Agridek doesn’t just supply products – we offer a complete concept that helps livestock farmers get the most out of their forage. Every year, our systems are improved and new, practical solutions are developed. The result: dozens of new Agridek lasagna pits and hundreds of upgraded existing silos. In June 2021, we proudly celebrated the installation of our 100th portal system, and in 2025 we installed our 200th covering system.
At Agridek, we work with people who have hands-on experience and understand what a farmyard really needs. Short lines, down-to-earth advice, and products that actually work – that’s what we stand for.
Our team
History of Agridek
In 2000, pioneer Hotze Bosch drew a lot of attention when he built an impressive silo with walls as high as 3 meters. “How did he manage that?” many wondered. After a season struggling with plastic, tires, and countless liters of sweat, the desire arose for a strong, reusable cover sheet—one that could be easily placed and removed with a tractor, without needing car tires, thanks to water hoses that held it in place. However, dragging the sheet proved far from ideal. After long evenings of brainstorming at the kitchen table, the first covering machine was finally created.
Agridek started modestly at Jan’s home in Reduzum. The garage was converted into a small workshop, and a room in the house was set up as an office. For storing the reel systems and other large equipment, a yard on his street was used. But soon we outgrew that space, and Agridek found a new location in the former building of transport company Van der Werf. Here, there was significantly more room to assemble parts and store large equipment in-house.
Over the years that the first covering system was in use, we learned a lot. The cover sheet, the machine, the water storage, and the pump-and-fill system were continuously improved. When driving on the silo wall proved less desirable, Jan Bosch designed a new portal system that offered more flexibility. This system made it possible to feed silage year-round. What started as a solution for their own farm has now grown into an independent company with countless products and, perhaps most importantly, the most knowledge and experience in forage storage and covering solutions. That same year, we proudly delivered the first machine to Talsma in Brantgum.
A lot is happening; milk prices and milk quotas are causing uncertainty in the agricultural sector. Yet Agridek continues confidently with its vision. Through presentations, lectures, media coverage, and the development of future plans, interest among livestock farmers is growing rapidly. More and more dairy farmers are discovering that the Agridek Covering System not only saves labor but also offers significant feed-related advantages. This photo comes from the Friesch Dagblad, one of the newspapers that featured Agridek in the media this year. It shows how our innovations are gaining increasing recognition in the sector.
At the Agricultural Fair in Leeuwarden, Agridek presented its 50th portal system—a major milestone that highlighted our growth and innovative strength. The system attracted a lot of attention thanks to its unique design and ease of use, providing dairy farmers with significant time savings. Visitors to the fair were impressed by how the system not only increases efficiency but also reduces physical strain. Initially, people saw the system as a luxury product, but it soon became clear that it represented a revolutionary new way of storing and feeding forage. Increasingly, advisors and feed suppliers supported the concept, paving the way for further growth and adoption.
Agridek quickly outgrew its location in Reduzum, and after five years we moved to Wirdum. This site offered more space for the office, workshop, and storage, but it soon became too small as well. After expanding on the same industrial site with additional sheds, we eventually created one large space by removing an interior wall, enabling more efficient work. While this location met our needs, we were already looking ahead to acquiring our own building to support further growth.
Dozens of new portal systems are once again being produced and delivered. The Agridek DUO system has been developed and installed directly at two dairy farms. Where, 20 years ago, the first prototype ran over the wall at our own dairy farm, Agridek is now designing a completely renewed version this year. The Agridek rail system, with interchangeable rollers and adjustable height, is fully electric and ideal for both existing setups and new construction projects with limited space.
This year, we reached a wonderful milestone that we are incredibly proud of: the 100th portal system! Of course, such a milestone couldn’t go unnoticed. To give this moment a special touch, we chose to deliver the system with a special golden roller. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the past and celebrate everything we’ve achieved, with a special thank-you to the customer, of course. The media also picked up on this moment: both local and national outlets covered it, online as well as in newspapers and trade magazines. This gave Agridek excellent promotion and once again highlighted our commitment to innovation and customer focus.
After four years in Wirdum and careful consideration of our options, the moment had finally arrived: our first own building! After many searches and viewings, we eventually found the perfect location in Joure. Although it’s not exactly in the center of Friesland, Joure offers excellent connections to other parts of Friesland and beyond, thanks to the A6 and A7 highways. This spacious building not only provides ample office and workshop space, but also represents an investment in the future. With enough room to support Agridek’s continued growth and a look that is a significant upgrade compared to our previous locations, this step marks a new phase in our development.
This year, we’re celebrating a special milestone: Agridek’s 10th anniversary and the festive opening of our new building. During our open days, we welcome customers, suppliers, and local residents to join us in marking these important moments. In our new premises in Joure—a location that reflects our growth and ambition—we give a behind-the-scenes look and share our vision for the future. With activities, presentations, and a friendly atmosphere, we offer visitors the chance to get to know Agridek better while reflecting on the past ten years and looking ahead to everything yet to come.
