Forage just has to be perfect
Dairy farm Stellingwerf-Valk is fully committed to top-quality grass silage and a consistent ration. Their “lasagne” silage pit, covered with an Agridek system, plays a key role in achieving that goal.
Consistent quality through good forage and smart covering
At dairy farm Mts. Stellingwerf-Valk, forage plays a central role in feeding their 180 dairy cows. With five cuts per year and two-thirds of dry matter coming from forage, quality is crucial. The Stellingwerf brothers make one large “lasagne” silage pit in a clamp silo and use the Agridek covering system to keep it well sealed and fresh.
“The pit needs to be opened often. This system is perfect for that. We don’t even use edge film anymore and the feed stays nice and fresh.”
In addition to better preservation, the system also makes their work easier. Because they feed from the same pit year-round, the ration remains consistent — which is directly reflected in milk production and cheese quality.
